About Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers
One of Bob Marley’s four children, Ziggy Marley was able to forge a successful career in his own right, even managing to outsell his father in the U.S. The Melody Makers’ breakthrough came with their second album, 1988’s Grammy Award-winning Conscious Party. Produced by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads, the album included the U.S. Top 40 hit "Tomorrow People." One Bright Day, a slick collection of dance reggae, hit the U.S. Top 30 and also won a Grammy. Marley continued to make excellent records during the '90s and 2000s, although the tougher, worldbeat-oriented sound alienated some fans. Marley received his third Grammy for Fallen Is Babylon, and by the 2000s had incorporated elements of hip-hop into the Melody Makers sound. ~ Rovi Staff
