About Wilco

Debuting as a rough-and-tumble alt-country act and evolving into a mature, eclectic indie rock ensemble, Wilco rose from the ashes of the seminal roots band Uncle Tupelo. Wilco hit their stride with second album Being There, which marked a dramatic stylistic shift where country and roots rock existed only as small parts of their creative formula, along with expressive pop and freewheeling experimentation (thanks to the creativity of multi-instrumentalist Jay Bennett). The band broke through into the alternative mainstream with 1999's bent pop compendium Summerteeth and 2001's cool and expressive Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Bennett was voted out of the band, however, leading to a new lineup of the group (featuring guitarist Nels Cline) that began delivering some of their most challenging and free-spirited work.
