About Velocity Girl

Signed to Sub Pop Records just as grunge was starting to pass out of the media spotlight, Washington DC's Velocity Girl were part of the transformation from "alternative" to "indie." The band, led by singer Sarah Shannon and former Black Tambourine guitarist Archie Moore, was connected by both personnel and inclination to the then-underground twee pop scene (their name was stolen from a 1987 Primal Scream single) while college-radio hits like "Audrey's Eyes" and "I Can't Stop Smiling" recalled the shoegazer sound. After three fine albums, COPACETIC, SIMPATICO, and GILDED STARS AND ZEALOUS HEARTS, Velocity Girl broke up in 1996.
