About Vanessa Amorosi
An expressive vocalist with a truly rafters-shaking range, Vanessa Amorosi is one of Australia’s most confident and versatile solo stars. Just weeks before she turned 18, Amorosi (born in Melbourne in 1981) flexed her proficiency with feisty, radio-friendly rock on her debut single, “Have a Look.” She showcased another side entirely on her follow-up single, “Absolutely Everybody,” a euphoric dance-pop anthem that hit big in Europe as well as Australia. Her 2000 album, The Power, further showcased her vocal versatility, though she would find her greatest chart success with triumphant power ballads like “Perfect” and the local chart-topper “This Is Who I Am.” Amorosi lent her signature emotional heft as a guest vocalist to California rockers Hoobastank on 2009’s “The Letter” and to fellow Aussie Jon Stevens on 2017’s “Something ‘Bout You,” while her stratospheric, strings-swept ballad “Lessons of Love” lives up to its mission statement as a contender for Australia’s entry in the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. Grounded from touring by the COVID pandemic, Amorosi launched her 2020 album The Blacklisted Collection with a weekly procession of singles that included the timely lament “Isolation” and a tender, piano-flecked cover of Ray Davies’ “I Go to Sleep” in the style of Sia’s 2008 version.
