About Tshego

With his hybrid singing-rapping style, Tshego has become a key figure in South Africa’s hip-hop-tinged R&B movement. Born Tshegofatso Ketshabile in Atlanta, Georgia in 1990, Tshego relocated to South Africa during his formative years and made a name for himself in his adopted hometown of Mafikeng as a songwriter and producer under the alias Shag (The Gorilla). After building a following as part of the rap collective Sotho Mafia, Tshego gained national attention in 2014 through his independently released mixtape Since 1990. The following year, he delivered the mesmerizing hook on Cassper Nyovest's “Cold Hearted” and became part of the rap superstar’s Family Tree record label. Under the stable, Tshego further catapulted his career by dropping the singles “Hennessy” and “Garden” and reissuing his first tape. On his major-label debut, Pink Panther, Tshego deftly straddles singing and rapping and incorporates Afropop elements (especially on lead single “No Ties”), demonstrating his versatile, genre-blurring talent and creative direction.
