Tommy Keene

Power pop cult hero Tommy Keene began his recording career in 1982 with the indie EP Strange Alliance. Keene received glowing reviews for the release, and eventually wound up on Geffen Records, for whom he made two albums and an EP before returning to indieland in the '90s. Keene's albums were few and far between over the years as he shifted from one label to another, but his sleek, infectious pop sound remained remarkably consistent. In 2017, Keene died unexpectedly from natural causes at the age of 59. ~ Jim Allen
