Essential Albums
- An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Tom Misch studied jazz guitar at a Conservatoire of Music. A single year, however, proved enough before his attention switched to his own bedroom productions. This debut album perfects a blueprint explored on early acclaimed EPs and singles: unhurried vocals complementing a cross-pollination of deeply attractive pop, jazz, and hip-hop. And the highlights come thick and fast. “Man Like You” and “You’re On My Mind” will illuminate candlelit bedrooms, while Loyle Carner pays tribute to the pair’s South London roots over a hypnotic sax loop on the funk-flecked “Water Baby”. The album’s warm and celebratory mood peaks, however, with De La Soul’s weightless “It Runs Through Me” verses.

About Tom Misch
With his innate soul and feel-good grooves, Tom Misch blurs the lines between hip-hop, jazz, and dance music. The classically trained multi-instrumentalist and producer, born in London in 1995, was part of the first wave of indie artists uploading their songs to streaming platforms in the early 2010s. From building an online fanbase with early EPs such as Beat Tape 1, a collection of J Dilla-inspired instrumentals, and Reverie, Misch broke out with his 2018 debut album, Geography, where chill boom-bap beats, disco-tinged guitar jams, and a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” all happily coexist. He is also a star collaborator, having worked with Yussef Dayes (with whom he released the 2020 joint album What Kinda Music), De La Soul, Freddie Gibbs, Loyle Carner, and Jordan Rakei. In 2022, Misch launched his electronic project, Supershy, to explore new sounds and genres and spread positive vibes along the way.
