About Tiktak

Whether they were slinging bouncy, Hanson-esque teen pop or synth-driven indie rock, Tiktak managed to hold their own as a staple of Finnish Top 40 radio in the early 2000s. Comprised of six girls from a music school in Helsinki (Petra, Mimmu, Emppu, Noora, Nea, and Tuuli), the bandmembers were barely in their teens by the time they landed a major record deal with Universal in 1999. Their debut album, Frendit, was released in Finland soon after, and the band attempted to break into the U.S. market the following year. Billing themselves at Tik N' Tak, the group released two English-language singles, "Don't Look Back" and "Upside Down," and re-released their debut under the title Friends. In spite of earning rave reviews from various indie critics, the album flopped on the U.S. market and Tiktak returned to Finland in 2001. The band returned to writing songs in Finnish on their second album, Jotain Muuta (Something Else). Three more albums followed over the next four years, including 2005's Myrskyn Edella, which was nominated for Best Pop Album at that year's Emma Awards. ~ TiVo Staff
