Boston-based post-hardcore band Therefore I Am is known for its aggressive, melodic-leaning music and intense do-it-yourself work ethic. Inspired by Thrice and At the Drive In, the band formed in the early aughts and soon began touring extensively. After self-releasing several EPs, the combo performed at the Boston Rockstar Taste of Chaos show and as a result was designated as Unsigned Band of the Month by ALTERNATIVE PRESS magazine. The group soon attracted the attention of Equal Vision Records, which signed Therefore I Am in 2008 and released the debut full-length album THE SOUND OF HUMAN LIVES. The album refined the group’s trademark matching of screamo-style hardcore with pop-influenced, vocal harmony-laden melodic rock. In 2009, the group was nominated for the Best Band in Boston award by the BOSTON PHOENIX.
