The Silos

About The Silos

Roots rockers with a taste for ragged, energetic guitars, the Silos are a big-city band whose songs evoke the dry, dusty sound of the Southwest and tales of small-town misbehavior. Formed by vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Walter Salas-Humara, the band hails from New York City, though the faint country accents in their melodies and the scrappy flavor of their performances suggest Southern roots (which may be attributed to Salas-Humara's upbringing in Florida). After earning a cult following with 1985's About Her Steps and 1987's Cuba, they enjoyed a brief fling with the majors, issuing their self-titled 1990 effort on RCA. They soon returned to the indie community, where the group became mainstays, issuing a string of smart, unpretentious LPs such as 1994's Susan Across the Ocean, 2004's When the Telephone Rings, 2011's Florizona, and 2022's Family.
