About The Shadows of Knight

A classic example of 1960s American garage rock, the Chicago-based Shadows of Knight hit it big with their 1965 version of that timeless anthem of teenage lust, "Gloria." The band's bluesy, gritty white-boy R&B was an American answer to U.K. bands such as the Birds, the Pretty Things, and the Kinks. Though the prime line-up of Shadows of Knight was extinct by 1967, the group soldiered on in various incarnations, playing various pop styles in search of success. The early-2000s garage rock revival saw renewed interest in the band, particularly from E Street Band guitarist and all-around rock-&-roll patron "Little" Steven Van Zandt, who featured them on his Underground Garage radio show and subsequent festival.
