About The New Morty Show

The plum of the Slimstyle Records lineup, swing revivalists the New Morty Show keep things jumping. Hailing from San Francisco, but steeped in Las Vegas style, the many New Morty band members (trumpeter and band leader Morty Okin, vocalist Kat Starr, vocalist Vise Grip, bassist Tom Beyer, tenor saxophonist Dave Murotake, drummer Kevin Stevens, trombonist Van Hughes, baritone saxophonist Tom Griesser, guitarist David Metzner and pianist John Quam) have been channeling the spirits of Louis Prima and Woody Herman since the mid-'90s. Their debut album, Mortyfied, was released in March of 1998, and the band made a cameo appearance playing music from that record in the Francis Ford Coppolla movie, Jack that same year. Straight Ahead and Rigomorty followed in 2000. ~ Stacia Proefrock
