About The Kills

After the dissolution of bouncy '90s Florida punk outfit Discount, lead singer Allison Mosshart moved to London to team up with Brit Jamie Hince. Under the ghost names VV & Hotel, the pair formed the Kills, an indie rock outfit whose gritty guitar riffs and sexually charged call-and-response vocals captured the attention of Domino Records. The band's 2003 debut, Keep on Your Mean Side, enthralled critics on both sides of the Atlantic; the even rougher, sparser follow-up, No Wow, kept the buzz alive. Midnight Boom, from 2008, furthered the Kills' reputation as the duo smoothed out the edges while the undercurrent of rock chaos remained. Mosshart later joined the Jack White project the Dead Weather for two albums, and the duo eventually reunited for 2011's Blood Pressures. ~ Jason Thurston
