About The JuJu Exchange

Mixing acoustic and digital instrumentation, the Juju Exchange are known for their atmospheric, spiritually and globally minded blend of jazz, hip-hop, electronic, and R&B. The group's debut album, Exchange, arrived in 2017. Hailing from Chicago, the Juju Exchange came together in 2017 around childhood friends drummer/producer Nova Zaii (nee Everett Reid), his keyboardist/producer brother Julian Reid, and trumpeter/producer Nico Segal. After high school, Zaii studied at University of Michigan where he earned degrees in jazz studies and performing arts technology. Along with drums, he plays his own patented invention, the Nova Portals, which do not require physical touch to make sound. Keyboardist Reid studied at Yale and Candler School of Theology at Emory University, earning his Master of Divinity. When not performing, he works as a writer and teacher. Formerly known by his stage name Donnie Trumpet, Segal is best known for his work with Chance the Rapper, including as a member of the group the Social Experiment. In 2017, the Juju Exchange released their debut album, Exchange, which featured contributions by bassist Lane Beckstrom. The trio returned in 2020 with their sophomore release, The Eternal Boombox EP. ~ Matt Collar
