About The Jaded Hearts Club
A supergroup comprised of members of the Last Shadow Puppets, Jet, Muse, Blur, and the Zutons, the Jaded Hearts Club was formed by guitarist and founder Jamie Davis, who rounded up his famous friends to perform as a cover band for a birthday party. Influenced by Northern soul and Motown, they made it official in 2020 with the release of their debut album, You've Always Been Here. In 2017, the Los Angeles-based Davis -- who headed the Transcopic Records label for fellow guitarist Graham Coxon of Blur -- was in search of a Beatles cover band to perform at his birthday party. Finding nothing to suit his interests, he rallied his own lineup, which, in addition to Coxon and himself, included vocalists Miles Kane (the Last Shadow Puppets) and Nic Cester (Jet), bassist Matt Bellamy (Muse), and drummer Sean Payne (the Zutons). With the Beatles cover band idea in mind, the star-studded crew originally dubbed themselves Dr. Pepper's Jaded Hearts Club Band. They played here and there over the years (including a set to benefit the Teenage Cancer Trust at Royal Albert Hall in 2018), boasting live guest appearances by Nic's brother and fellow Jet member Chris Cester, Bellamy's Muse bandmates Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholme, NIN's Ilan Rubin, and actual Beatle Paul McCartney. By the end of the decade, the Jaded Hearts Club decided to set their performances to tape and entered the studio, recording a collection of covers of their favorite Northern soul and Motown songs. The album's first single, a spirited cover of the Isley Brothers' "Nobody But Me" with Kane on vocals, arrived in early 2020. They followed it with a stomping take on Marvin Gaye's "This Love Starved Heart of Mine" with Nic Cester taking the lead. Both tracks landed on their official debut, You've Always Been Here, which was released that October. ~ Neil Z. Yeung
