About The Enid
After aborting a promising career as a concert pianist for a three year stint as musical director of Barclay James Harvest, and a 1973 solo album, Robert John Godfrey formed influential art-rockers the Enid in 1974. Their debut, IN THE REGION OF THE SUMMER STARS, appeared in 1976 to a small but dedicated following. Despite the onslaught of punk, subsequent concept albums only increased their cult audience. Afterits label, Pye Records, went bankrupt in 1980, they appeared, uncredited, as the backing band on several Kim Wilde albums, to raise funds to record and release their fifth album, SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES. Godfrey continued to lead the band into the '90s, releasing the Robert Graves inspired set, WHITE GODDESS, in 1998.
