About Syvia

Brooklyn-based indie rock quartet Syvia started as the solo project of Norwegian-American singer/songwriter Ruth Syvia Mirsky. Previously a member of the Drums and What What Where, she struck out on her own in 2011 and recorded her first EP, the Nordic synth-pop Unloveable, with Simone Ghetti. For the follow-up, she switched gears, enlisting bassist Sheldon Chow, guitarist Frank Banisi, and drummer Richard Moyle to round out a full rock band. After releasing a pair of singles -- "Two Homes" in 2013 and "Soon" in 2014 -- Syvia released their first proper LP, FWD, in 2015. Retaining some of the glimmering synth from Unloveable, FWD moved the group's sound away from the pop spectrum, creating a crunchy blend of early Metric and Interpol. Beneath the evolving styles and a dark post-punk veneer, Mirsky's voice remains the bright constant. Their songs would go on to be featured in a number of television shows, like the Vampire Diaries, Stitchers, 666 Park Avenue, and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In 2016, they released the Silent Violence EP, which featured the fuzzy shoegaze "Anxious Animals." ~ Neil Z. Yeung
