About Synthetic ID

A San Francisco four-piece whose music fuses hardcore velocity with post-punk angularity, Synthetic ID were formed in 2011 by former members of Face the Rail and Ecoli. Featuring vocalist Nic Lang, guitarist Jake Dudley, bassist Paul Lucich, and drummer Will Litton, Synthetic ID recorded their first demo tape in early 2011, which they distributed to fans on cassette. As word spread about the band in the Bay Area, the German punk label Cut the Cord That... Records got wind of Synthetic ID and offered to release their demo on vinyl. Titled White Walls, the 7" EP appeared in 2012 and went through two pressings, one on white vinyl. The EP earned positive press from various punk and indie journals, and Synthetic ID were soon gigging regularly in California. Another EP, a 12" vinyl release titled Apertures, followed in November 2012, issued by 1-2-3-4 Go! Records. By the end of 2012, Synthetic ID were touring the West Coast, and they contributed a track to the cassette compilation By Any Means Bay Area 2013. In early 2014, Synthetic ID popped up on another compilation, a sampler from Maximum Rocknroll titled Sound the Alarms. August 2014 found the prolific band dropping another vinyl EP, a four-song 7" titled Escapement. In 2015, Synthetic ID came to the attention of the noted San Francisco indie label Castle Face Records, who signed the band to a deal. The group's first full-length album, Impulses, was recorded by Phil Manley at El Studio and released in April of 2016. ~ Mark Deming
