About Sweetie Irie

After appearing with the Nasty Love sound system, Sweetie Irie was asked to DJ on a dancehall version of Aswad’s single "On And On" in 1989. After a second U.K. chart placing with the group for 1990’s "Smile," the gravel-voiced DJ was signed to Mango. After scoring a hit with "New Talk," he collaborated with Scritti Politti, which gave the DJ a third chart entry ("Take Me in Your Arms and Love Me"). In more recent years, Sweetie Irie has explored the house music, racking up some dance hits in the U.K. garage scene.
