About Sue Nicholls

b. Susan Frances Harmar Nicholls, 23 November 1943, Walsall, West Midlands, England. The daughter of a former Conservative Member of Parliament, she is one of the rare people to star in two top-rated television soap operas. With much stage work under her belt, she joined the cast of UK televisions Crossroads in 1965 playing waitress Marilyn Gates. She became so popular that a song she performed in the show, Where Will You Be, which was written and produced by Tony Hatch, climbed into the UK Top 20 in 1968. The success of the record inspired her to quit Crossroads and to go on the road as a singer. However, when the follow-up All The Way To Heaven failed, she returned to acting. She later appeared in many other television programmes including popular situation comedies The Rise And Fall Of Reginald Perrin (as Mr. Perrins secretary, Miss Jones) and Up The Elephant And Round The Castle. She joined the cast of Coronation Street in 1979 and has been a regular member of the top-rated soap opera since 1985, playing the role of (now) Councillor Audrey Roberts.
