∙ After breaking into the industry as a Nashville songwriter, Chapman released his debut LP, First Hand, in 1987 and earned his first Dove Award two years later.
∙ He’s won 59 Dove Awards—more than anyone else in history—and has also received 18 Grammy Award nominations, winning Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album honors five times.
For the Sake of the Call, from 1991, was his first of five straight No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart, which he’s now topped a total of nine times.
