Stevan Kovacs Tickmayer

About Stevan Kovacs Tickmayer

Composer/multi-instrumentalist Stevan Kovacs Tickmayer was born into Novi Sad, Yugoslavia's Hungarian community, moving to France as the Yugoslav Wars broke out in 1991. Until 1997 he composed for choreographer Josef Nadj's dance company, including music heard on the Tickmayer Formatio album Wilhelm Dances MCMXCII, released by ReR in 1993. ReR co-founder Chris Cutler invited him to compose and record experimental rock with the Science Group, which issued two albums on ReR, A Mere Coincidence (1999) and Spoors (2003), before Tickmayer released two solo albums of hyper-complex avant prog on the label, Repetitive Selective Removal of One Protecting Group (2005) and Cold Peace Counterpoints (2008). Tickmayer has collaborated with Gidon Kremer and with Boris Kovac; is a member of improvising threesome Trio Kontraszt; and released Gaps, Absences, his third ReR solo album, in 2015. ~ Dave Lynch
