In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My mom often played a song on the piano called Bourbon Street Saturday Night. She’d play the first few notes and pause dramatically, and I’d get so excited and beg her to keep playing. That song made me want to learn to play piano. Janis Ian, Between the Lines (Remastered) Jesca Hoop, Long Wave Home Joanna Newsom, Ys Janis Ian's music shaped me as a teenager—I love the emotion and intimacy in these recordings. Joanna Newsom's storytelling is unparalleled—I used to sing through this whole album on long-distance bike rides. Jesca Hoop never fails to mesmerize me.
