About Southside Johnny
R&B fanatic Southside Johnny formed the Asbury Jukes in the early 1970s. Like another New Jersey local, Bruce Springsteen, they bolstered their reputation by enlisting Ronnie Spector, Lee Dorsey, and black vocal groups of the '50s on their recordings and live shows. Their albums sold well enough, but by the '80s, many fans felt that much nascent passion had been dissipated. Thereafter the Jukes recorded only sporadically, preferring instead to tour constantly along the East coast.
