About Shy Boys
Melding the rich harmonies and melodic sweetness of '60s sunshine pop and the Beach Boys with a looser, more intimate contemporary indie pop, Shy Boys hail from Kansas City, Missouri. While they received attention from the national indie music press for their lower-fi 2014 debut, they sharpened their sound and spotlighted vocal harmonies on 2018's Bell House.
Brothers Collin and Kyle Rausch grew up singing together in their church choir and played separately in a variety of other bands in the Kansas City area before forming Shy Boys with Kyle's ACBs bandmate Konnor Ervin in 2012. Revealing an affection not only for '60s-style harmonies but surf rock, the group's jangly self-titled debut also established their knack for melody and nuanced chord progressions when it arrived via Kansas City's High Dive Records in 2014. Ross Brown and Kyle Little were added to the lineup over the next couple of years. Shy Boys stepped up the production while retaining the human elements of their sound for their second album, leading to a record deal with Polyvinyl in early 2018. Named for the building that acted as the band's longtime base, Bell House arrived that August. In 2018, the band also toured in support of Cut Worms and labelmates STRFKR, and opened a show in North Carolina for Fleet Foxes.
