About Sarah Martin McConnell
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. At four yrs old, I often performed my song-and-dance routine "Love and Marriage" for staff and shoppers on countertops at Sam Stein's Dept Store in Greenville, MS, emulating Gisele Mackenzie - my favorite star of 1950s hit TV show "The Hit Parade." What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Barbra Streisand, Color Me Barbra Bill Lee, Giorgio Tozzi, John Kerr, Mitzi Gaynor, Muriel Smith, Oscar Hammerstein II, Richard Rodgers, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Rossano Brazzi, South Pacific (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Joni Mitchell, Ladies of the Canyon I grew up in the imaginary world of Broadway musicals and one of my all-time favorites is South Pacific. I flipped for Barbra when she hit the pop scene - such a voice and such fun! Joni is my songwriting guru - her lyrics and melodies are sublime. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Every Heart Goes Home For Christmas” My co-writer Walter Hyatt and I wanted to paint a musical snapshot of this season of love. The ballad's flowing melody and intimate performance create space for the listener's imagination to soar on the lyric's timeless images of Christmas and home. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? An impromptu on-stage "elevator pitch" to Ashton Kutcher resulted in my winning a $50,000 WeWork Creator Award for Nashville-based non-profit Music for Seniors (which I founded in 2007). That led to my TED Talk, another exciting on-stage moment! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I have always been a huge fan of Saturday Night Live, which I started watching in college when it first came on the air. I am STILL manifesting the amazing fun of appearing on SNL as guest host AND musical guest combined! Please give them my number!
