About Sandie Shaw
She was a porcelain-featured teen model and vocalist when pop star Adam Faith discovered her singing at a concert in 1964. Faith quickly helped her to become a sensation in the U.K., with hits that included the Eurovision Song Contest-winning "Puppet on a String." Her beauty, quirky charm (she often went barefoot for concerts and photo shoots), and novel choice of cover material endeared her to U.K. audiences, and she enjoyed several charting hits in England. Shaw had retired by the '70s, but enjoyed a brief career rebirth in the '80s as a retro role model, with support from acolytes such as Morrissey and the Jesus & Mary Chain. She retired once again in the '90s, devoting herself to her clinical psychotherapy practice.
