Roland Kaiser is a German schlager singer-songwriter who has sold more than 90 million records worldwide.
∙ Starting out as an advertising artist, Kaiser decided to pursue a music career in the early ’70s after German producer Thomas Meisel discovered him singing in a pub.
∙ “Frei, das heißt allein,” his 1976 breakthrough hit, reached No. 14 on the German singles charts.
∙ Kaiser appeared 67 times on the popular German schlager TV program ZDF-Hitparade—the most times by any guest artist.
∙ “Santa Maria,” his biggest hit, topped the German singles chart for five weeks in 1980.
∙ Between 1981 and 1987, he was a four-time winner of the Goldene Stimmgabel, a music industry award given to best-selling artists who sing in German.
