About Roger Whittaker
Roger Whittaker was an African-born British singer and songwriter known for his rich, smooth baritone and friendly pop fare. He emerged to worldwide popularity in the '70s with his global 1975 hit "The Last Farewell." Also known for his whistling, Whittaker's biggest and most consistent audiences were in Europe, especially in Germany, where he prolifically released German-language albums and toured heavily. Although his focus turned largely to interpretive singing, some of his best-known songs, like "Durham Town (The Leavin')" and "I Don't Believe in 'If' Anymore," were originals. Whittaker continued to nurture his devoted fan base, touring regularly into the 21st century before retiring in the South of France in 2013. He died in September 2023 at the age of 87.
