Robert Führer

About Robert Führer

A popular composer of church music whose only appeal appears to be the dissemination of his work and the pleasing lyric quality of his melodies. Fuhrer was taught by Vitasek at the Prague Cathedral, a position to which he acceded upon the latter's death. He held other positions primarily as an organist but also toured with the violinist Gartner to diverse Austrian and Hungarian towns. Bruckner was his primary competition at the Mozart festivities of 1856 in Salzburg. Fuhrer composed over 400 pieces of music including masses, requiems, oratorios, and secular cantatas. The most meritorious of his compositions was perhaps the Mass in A`b' and the Requiem in G. ~ Keith Johnson
