About Ro James

R&B singer Ro James utilizes his nomadic background to create a musical melting pot of various genres. • Born in Stuttgart, Germany, James lived in various locations—from Hawaii to Oklahoma—due to his father being in the military. • James draws inspiration from artists like David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Hathaway, and Jodeci. Also, Prince, whom his aunt Rosie Gaines sang with in the ’90s as a member of the New Power Generation. • In 2013, James independently released his debut EP Coke, Jack and Cadillacs, which led to a record deal with RCA in 2015. • James’ 2015 breakout single, "Permission," peaked at No. 12 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart and earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance.
