About Rick Price
Citing Stevie Wonder and James Taylor as influences, singer/songwriter Rick Price carved out a successful solo career after serving as backing vocalist to Marcia Hines, Jon English, Dragon, Kerrie Biddell, and Jade Hurley during the 1980s. Singing Australia's bicentennial anthem, "Celebration of a Nation," with Keren Minshull in 1988 first brought Price national attention. His solo career began with Sony Records in 1991, when he traveled to L.A. to work with producer Chris Lord-Alge and several renowned U.S. session players. His debut album, Heaven Knows, spawned the hit singles "Not a Day Goes By" (number five in April 1992) and "Heaven Knows" (number six in August 1992). Price returned to the Top 40 with a cover of the Left Banke/Four Tops "Walk Away Renee" and a duet with Margaret Ulrich, "Where Is the Love?," in 1993. Record sales in Asia and Europe began to pick up where he was favorably compared with singer/songwriters like Bryan Adams and Richard Marx. Heaven Knows was released in Japan at the end of 1993 and Price performed at the successful Wizard of Oz gigs in Japan with Margaret Ulrich and Yothu Yindi. "Heaven Knows" went on to top the charts in Malaysia and the Philippines and was voted Song of the Year at the Singapore Music Awards, selling over 250,000 copies in Southeast Asia alone. Price's second album, Tamborine Mountain was released in 1995 and the single "River of Love" peaked at number 18 in Australia. ~ Brendan Swift
