About Remy Ma

Bronx rapper Remy Ma was among the pioneering female MCs who pryed open the doors of hip-hop for women. Her lyrical prowess and raw talent earned her a spot amongst the genre’s greats. • Though Remy initially used poetry to cope with her difficult childhood, she quickly made a name for herself in her borough as a respected lyricist. • Late Bronx rapper Big Pun took Remy under his wing and broke her as an artist by featuring her on his posthumously released 2000 album Yeeeah Baby. • Following Big Pun’s death, Fat Joe—Pun’s mentor—recruited Remy to join Terror Squad. In 2004 she contributed a verse to their single “Lean Back,” which earned the group a Grammy nomination. • Remy’s promising career was halted in 2006, when an assault conviction led to six years in prison. • Alongside her husband Papoose, Remy joined the cast of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: New York in 2015. • In 2016, Remy reunited with Fat Joe to release the joint album Plata O Plomo. The LP’s lead single, “All The Way Up,” went double platinum and received two Grammy nominations.
