Raymond J. Lustig

Raymond J. Lustig is an American composer who, fascinated by the human mind and trained as a biology researcher, is known for a psychologically intense style that combines a fragmented, distorted approach to musical form and haunting melodic lines. He has received the Aaron Copland Award, a Charles Ives Fellowship, and the ASCAP's Rudolf Nissim Prize for his orchestral work Unstuck. The piece exemplifies Lustig's tendency to mix beautiful gestures with jarring formal developments. His music-theater masterpiece Semmelweis is about the doctor at the end of his life, as his mind disintegrates; the studio album of that work was released on Sono Luminus in April 2026.
