About PRONOUN

The confessional pop of pronoun is the brainchild of Brooklyn singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alyse Vellturo. Growing up in Boston, Vellturo learned how to play piano, guitar, and drums, and began writing and recording her own songs in her early teens. However, after graduating from the Berklee College of Music with a music business major, she moved to New York in 2012 to pursue a career managing independent labels. Eventually, she began making music again, and the end of a long-term relationship in 2015 spurred her to write and record a set of songs in her bedroom. Pronoun's debut single, "A Million Other Things," appeared in late 2016, with the Tinder-referencing EP There's No One New Around You arriving soon after as a joint release between Rhyme & Reason and Vellturo's own Sleep Well imprint. A remix EP, Use Passport to Choose New Location, came out in May 2017 and featured reworkings by Funeral Advantage, Future Generations, YEYEY, and Charles Fauna. That year, Vellturo also issued the single "It's the Way" to benefit Planned Parenthood. Early in 2018, pronoun returned with the sweeping single "Run." ~ Heather Phares
