About Pill

Brooklyn post-punk experimentalists Pill earned critical acclaim for their heady mix of noise rock, no wave, free jazz, and punk on releases like 2016's Convenience and 2018's Soft Hell. Formed in 2014 by singer/bassist Veronica Torres, guitarist Jonathan Campolo, saxophonist Benjamin Jaffe, and drummer Andrew Spaulding, the quartet made their debut in 2015 with a self-titled five-song EP on Dull Tools, the label run by Parquet Courts' Andrew Savage. They soon signed with Mexican Summer, which issued their full-length LP, Convenience, a year later, earning plaudits for their wild and skronky collision of politics, personality, and melody. Coming back to the Dull Tools label, they issued a lengthier seven-song EP, Aggressive Advertising, in 2017, followed in February 2018 by a live 7" single on Third Man Records. A few months later, Dull Tools combined Pill's two EPs into a full-length release called The Dull Tools Tapes in advance of their proper sophomore album, Soft Hell, which appeared in October 2018. ~ Timothy Monger
