About Penelope Fortier
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
For my 5th birthday, my parents threw a big party with my friends and their artist and musician friends, including American singer-songwriter and poet Zachary Richard, who sang "L'arbre est dans ses feuilles", which was my favorite song at the time.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Brazil Classics 1: Beleza Tro****l
Nina Simone's Finest Hour
The Beatles (The White Album)
Beleza Tro****l is pure joy and sunshine. The White Album is a master class in songwriting. It is absolute genius. As for Nina Simone, well... her voice and piano have the power to both break your heart and mend it, ten times in just one song.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“Mademoiselle”
One very early Spring morning, I strolled lazily along the banks of the river Seine, in Paris, with my white Panama hat shading my eyes from the rising sun, flowers blooming everywhere and not a care in the world. I was a "mademoiselle" in love.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
My album "Sunday At Noon" release show at the "Lion d'or", in front of all my family and friends, old and new, where I was accompanied on stage by 12 musicians, including my younger sister on piano. It was also my first ever solo show in Montreal.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
The upcoming release of my new EP "Je chante Petit-Jean", honouring the works of my late uncle Jean Fortier, singer-songwriter and rising star of the 60's Quebec music scene, was the most recent project on bucket list. Next up? We'll see...
