Pavel Bořkovec

About Pavel Bořkovec

After a period of study as a philosophy student, Borkovec studied music with Foerster and Kricka and attended Suk's master class at the conservatory. These musicians influenced him in his early lyrical, romantic style. He soon developed a style derived from the neo-classicism of Stravinsky, Hindemith and Honegger. The finest examples of this period are his Nonet, Symfonietta and Concerto Grosso.6. These are marked by his delicate scoring and soloistic part writing. In addition to his instrumental writing, he composed emotional works for stage concerning war, political turmoil and the pursuit of freedom and justice. Borkovec's later years were devoted to teaching as a professor of composition at Prague Academy of Music. ~ Lynn Vought
