About Osibisa
Osibisa is a British-Ghanaian-Caribbean Afro rock band founded in England during the late 1960s by London-based expatriate West African and Caribbean musicians. Their music blended styles and rhythms from their homelands with soul, funk, and rock. Their first seven albums -- 1971's Osibisa and Woyaya, 1972's Heads, 1973's Superfly TNT (soundtrack) and Happy Children, 1974's Osibirock and 1975's Welcome Home -- all cracked the U.S. Top 200 and charted in England, Australia, and Canada. They released two acclaimed albums on Bronze: 1976's Ojah Awake and Black Magic Night. During the '80s they recorded for several labels including Celluloid (Celebration, 1980; Live at the Marquee, 1983), and Sound Check (Jambo, 1989). After going on hiatus in 1990, they regrouped for 1995's Unleashed and 1996's Monsore. 2003's African Dawn, African Flight and 2009's Osee Yee introduced them to a new generation. New Dawn appeared on Marquee Records in 2021.
