About Norbert Gottschalk
b. Germany. Although known as a jazz singer, Gottschalk is also an accomplished instrumentalist, playing guitar and trumpet. Among instrumentalists with whom Gottschalk has worked are saxophonist Peter Weniger, keyboard player Matthias Bröde, guitarist Rolf Marx, bass players Stefan Rademacher and Bernd Zinsius, and drummers Peter Baumgärtner and Wolfgang Ekholt. He has also performed and recorded very successfully in duo with guitarist Frank Haunschild. With Haunschild, Gottschalk has attracted wide and favourable attention on the German jazz scene of the early 00s. Their joint repertoire is an intriguing blend of jazz, folk, pop and Latin. Gottschalk sings in a vigorous fluid tenor on up-tempo songs while finding a delicate intimacy for ballads. He draws his personal repertoire primarily from jazz and popular standards.
