About No Mercy

Sister project to the much better known Suicidal Tendencies, this Venice, California thrash/metal band was formed in 1982 by guitarist Mike Clark. The band played a similarly heavy, fast hybrid of punk and metal as many of its peers in the Venice hardcore scene. Clark was joined by drummer Sal Troy, vocalist Keven Guercio, and bassist Ken Blakley. Blakley was in the band for less than a full year before he was replaced by graphic artist Ric "Rancid" Clayton. After Guercio worked with the band, singing on a few demos and compilation tracks, he moved to Wyoming in 1985 and was replaced by singer Mike Muir, who was already active as the voice of Suicidal Tendencies. Their first and only full-length album, Widespread Bloodshed...Love Runs Red, was released in 1987 on Suicidal Records. A second album's worth of material was ready to be recorded when Clayton and Troy quit the band, ultimately leading to its end as Clark joined Suicidal Tendencies and No Mercy was shelved. Clark took a strong songwriting role in Suicidal Tendencies, and many songs either intended to be No Mercy tunes or those released on Widespread Bloodshed were appropriated on future Suicidal Tendencies albums. The band was reactivated in 2000 as No Mercy Fool with new members joining Muir and Clark in the recording of various songs for compilation releases. ~ Fred Thomas
