About Monty

Delivering hedonistic and carnal lyrics against a hazy backdrop of pulsating trap beats and languid yet intensifying synth leads, Montana "Monty" Buckz is an MC and hip-hop/trap artist born in Trenton and raised in Paterson, New Jersey. The young rapper had a very early introduction to urban music, having listened to his mother freestyle as she went about her daily chores at home. During his early years at elementary school, Buckz and his brother began improvising rhymes and taking part in rap battles with friends in the neighborhood. As time went on, Monty began to steer closer to the idea of pursuing a career in hip-hop rather than just participating with it as a hobby, and co-founded the rap collective Remy Boyz 1738 (named after a premium Rémy Martin cognac) with friends Fetty Wap and P-Dice. His determination, creativity, and unwavering desire for success only strengthened as the years went on. In particular, with the passing of his mother when he was just 17, Monty took it upon himself to forge ahead with an uncompromising work ethic and set out on a concrete path to success in the music industry. With help, advice, and inspiration from friends (particularly that of his Remy Boyz counterpart Fetty Wap), Monty's rhymes and MC skills burgeoned and became ever stronger. He began spending more time in recording studios in 2005, working with producers and engineers such as Brian "People's 456" Garcia (Kelly Clarkson, Zara Larsson). At this point, Remy Boyz didn't have an official release under their collective moniker -- instead, the boys went the route of putting out tracks as individual artists, featuring one another as guest artists on said tracks, with frequent shout-outs to "the Remy Boyz" as a referential toast to their start and heydays. Monty saw his big break in 2015 when he put out his first solo releases and accompanying videos, one of which was the hit "Extendo" featuring Fetty Wap, and in turn he featured on Wap's track "679" (Monty would go on to feature on nine of the 20 tracks on Wap's debut record). Consistent collaboration and multiple guest appearances on each other's tracks continued to materialize, with the Fetty Wap track "My Way" (featuring Monty, of course) skyrocketing and peaking at number seven on the Billboard 100 chart and number one on the Billboard rhythmic chart. He went on to put out the single "Cash Green" in the fall of 2015 under the Remy Boy Monty moniker, and followed up that Christmas with his debut record, Monty Zoo: The Mixtape, via underground hip-hop label Empire Distribution. As expected, the record featured Fetty Wap on many of its tracks, with production handled by trap legend Metro Boomin (Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa). The end of 2015 also saw Monty appear as a guest artist on Wap's seasonal track "Merry Xmas," before they released the collaborative track "Handgun" in time to promote their tour together the following year. Early 2016 saw Monty and Fetty Wap embark on the Welcome to the Zoo tour with rapper and singer/songwriter Post Malone. Monty went on to become the CEO of the Remy Boyz record imprint, signing other urban artists such as T.A.P. and Chaos. Monty released Monty Zoo, Vol. 2, the sequel to his debut record and mixtape, in 2017. ~ Rob Wacey
