About Monteagle

The solo endeavor of Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Justin Giles Wilcox, Monteagle first appeared in 2018, blending thoughtful, dusty Americana with experimental textures on his debut album, Midnight Noon. Originally from Tennessee, Wilcox first gained notice fronting the noisy Chattanooga-based indie rock outfit Moonlight Bride, before relocating to New York, where he paired up with fellow songwriter Jeffrey Silverstein to form the group Nassau. As part of Nassau, his songwriting began to move toward a more introspective sound that fused elements of country and folk with ambient backdrops. He and Silverstein issued an EP, 2016's Hoss, followed a year later by their full-length, Heron. Seeking an outlet for his solo work, he adopted the name Monteagle after a mountain near his Eastern Tennessee home. Monteagle's 2018 debut, Midnight Noon, continued in the vein of Nassau, pairing modern tones with earthy songs that recalled his rural upbringing. ~ Timothy Monger
