About Moacyr Luz
Moacyr Luz has being praised as one of the greatest names of the younger generation of samba composers. He has had his compositions recorded by acts like Maria Bethânia, Emílio Santiago, Nana Caymmi, Leila Pinheiro, and Elba Ramalho, among others. Together with Aldir Blanc, he received the Sharp prize for the Best Song of the Year, for "Coração do Agreste" (recorded by Fafá de Belém), the theme of the TV Globo soap opera Tieta. In 1979, he recorded "Eu Me Descubro" with Lana Bittencourt. In 1984, he started his partnership with Aldir Blanc with "A Tua Sombra," which was included in his first solo album Moacyr Luz. "Mico Preto," recorded by Gilberto Gil, was chosen as the theme for a soap opera; "Anjo da Velha Guarda," "A Cereja e o Vermute," and the above mentioned "Coração Agreste" were other successes for the duo. The duo's ten years of success was commemorated with the CD Vitória da Ilusão. In 1996, he performed in the FAMPOP festival in Avaré, SP, winning first place with "O Tocador é Bom." Luz also is noted for his participation in Rede Globo's Festival da Música Brasileira 2000, having his song "Eu Só Quero Beber Água" among the finalists. ~ Alvaro Neder
