Mike Smiarowski

About Mike Smiarowski

Exceptional guitarist Mike Smiarowski, raised outside of Buffalo, NY, in Lackawanna, began his study of music when he was only ten years old. He played guitar in high school, later performing with a few bands now and then, but mostly going solo. His instrumental music has been called a brilliant mix of jazz, pop, rock, and classical. Sometimes referred to as the "Kenny G of Guitar" or the "Background Music King," Smiarowski recorded his debut album, Island Fantasy, in 1989 under the Smear Records label. The album, filled with pop instrumental island sounds, received great reviews and landed on the radio charts. Chas Eller from the band Kilimanjaro provided keyboards for the tunes on the album. In 1992, Smiarowski offered up a second album, Fusion. It was followed three years later by Island Fantasy II -- Return to Jabeam. Smiarowski's tunes have been used as background music in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Thailand for airports, elevators, stores, and even Air Force One. ~ Charlotte Dillon
