About Michael Messer

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I grew up in a musical family and earliest memory is hearing Elvis Presley on my mother's wind up gramophone. Jump on a few years and this 9 year old saw the Animals, Them & John Hammond on stage at the Margate Winter Gardens. They blew my socks off! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Bob Marley & The Wailers, Catch A Fire (Remastered 2013) Remastered Bonus Track Version J.J. Cale, Naturally Robert Johnson, The Complete Recordings Definitive of their genres. Robert Johnson is possibly the greatest ever exponent of the blues. Bob Marley took reggae to the world writing songs as if a prophet. JJ Cale’s 1st album is a masterpiece of simplicity & beauty in creating one’s own music Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Mostly We Drive” Written with Chaz in the summer of 2022. Sketched on my iPhone and finished in a North London cafe. Later that day we recorded the song in Chaz’s home studio and I love what we created. I chose this song because of that moment sitting in the cafe. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? In 1992 I recorded an album, Rhythm Oil, with Terry Clarke & Jesse Taylor. Johnny Cash loved it and wrote the CD liner notes. The only other artist Johnny Cash wrote liner notes for was Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline album. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I just want to keep writing music and making albums, and take the music out to people that love to hear live music.
