Mashine Music

About Mashine Music

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I had a band named Ictus, and when I could no longer play guitar, I switched to synthesizer and had to invent a role for myself in the band. I experimented with sequencers and two live drummers - and that led to much of what I do in Mashine Music. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Claus Ogerman, Michael Brecker, Claus Ogerman Featuring Michael Brecker Michael Gibbs, My Journey: The Original Songs of Michael Gibbs Weather Report, Heavy Weather Weather report integrated synthesizers into Jazz, inspiring me to explore my own approach. Claus Ogerman's writing inspired me to add orchestral sounds to my music. And Michael Gibbs inspired me as a mentor and friend. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Covid Rituals” When Covid hit, nobody knew what to do to stay safe, and we started creating rituals to keep ourselves healthy. This song came out of nowhere for me, it arrived in one writing session and brought together so many of my musical interests. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My band Ictus opened for Dave Brubeck, and he told me he liked my song "All for Susan" and thought if we got a good lyricist we could have a hit. I mentioned the song was in 17/16, 11/8, 9/8, 7/4 and more and he said "well it sounds natural to me!" Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would like to put a band together and tour with this music. I have so many excellent musicians that I have worked with as I developed my sound, and I'd love to bring them together to share this music with a live audience!
