In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember sitting at the piano with my mother. She was playing the piano for us as we sang songs from The Sound of Music, a movie we had watched on an endless loop, the lyrics committed to muscle memory. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? De La Soul, 3 Feet High and Rising R.E.M., Reckoning Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger R.E.M.'s blend of pop song craft and mysterious lyrics demonstrates that music can exist as feeling. Soundgarden makes loud, distorted, discordant guitars something beautiful. De La Soul's encyclopedic recontextualization of samples is a masterpiece. Tell us why you chose this song. “Gaza (Under the Rubble)” As images began coming out of Gaza in 2023, I felt an urgent need to do something with my anger and grief. This is the song that came into being, a discordant plea to the world. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I cherish the memory of recording Gaza (Under the Rubble) with my friend Alonzo Johnson. Not only did he pound the drums, but he threw together a bass line that anchored the song in a way I could never have done alone. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I do this to scratch an itch. When the musical rash hits, I usually grab a guitar and see what happens. That's all I can hope for.
