About Luke Slater

An early and key player of the U.K. techno scene, Luke Slater set about defining his vision in 1989 on recordings for the fledgling Jelly Jam label, an offshoot of the same-named Brighton record shop where he worked. In the early ‘90s, he released a steady batch of Detroit-influenced tracks under the guises Clementine and Planetary Assault Systems, becoming widely hailed as the U.K. torchbearer of the classic techno sound. Slater’s furious schedule of singles releases and DJ engagements began to take its toll in the mid ‘90s, and he refocused his energies on studio projects, returning in 1997 with the accomplished FREEK FUNK, followed up by the electro- and breakbeat-influenced WIRELESS (1999).
