Liraz

Liraz Charhi (Liraz) is an actress, singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur. Of Iranian-Israeli descent, she is based in Tel Aviv and Los Angeles. She employs both Israeli and Persian musical traditions in a signature meld of atmospheric electropop, Persian disco, folk, rock, EDM, neo-psychedelia, and surf. A highly regarded film and stage actress, she became a recording artist with 2018's acclaimed Naz, sung entirely in Persian. 2020's Zan was recorded with anonymous Iranian players to avoid detection by Tehran's secret police. 2022's Roya utilized her Israeli sextet over ten days in a hidden Istanbul studio with the Tehran musicians who played on Zan. After a fruitful meeting with Adrian Younge in Los Angeles, the pair wrote and recorded the collaborative album Azadi. It featured Liraz singing exclusively in Farsi in support of Iranian women. Its sound blended pre-revolutionary psychedelia with Persian folk melodies from that era over Younge's signature raw, cinematic, orchestration.
